My books with Simon & Schuster are all set from World War 1 to the 1960’s, but the Victorians have fascinated me from a child. I loved Dickens’s novels, which must have influenced my writing and reading. His characters seemed to jump off the page and were so gritty yet loveable; cutting-edge of Victorian society yet a perfect reflection of today’s issues. At their core was always a romance, a heartbreak and a valuable lesson learned. At their denouement - a light at the end of a Dickensian tunnel. Hope, that was it! But realistic hope unadorned by sentimentality. That’s the kind of hope I love.
And so, inspired by a long-held idea, I began to write CHRISTMAS CHILD. I’m so happy I did, for it was one of the most fulfilling adventures in writing that I’ve ever had. I’m so hoping that you will enjoy Ettie O’Reilly’s story. I call her my brave little heroine, for her unflinching faith in human nature is tested to its utmost throughout all her trials and tribulations. Quite soon I’ll be releasing an extract together with extracts from three of my books in my Newsletter, HERE. But if you’d like to know a little more about Ettie’s page on Amazon please click HERE. Happy reading everyone! Much love as always, Carol x
