Richards - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) Carol Rivers is a great writer. Her books portray a very true account of how East End life would have been for the characters in her books, I know, as I was born and bred on the Isle of Dogs. I can guarantee if you read this book, you will want to read the rest, and I hope, many more to come. You don't have to be an 'Eastender' to enjoy these books. 5.0 out of 5 stars Isle of Dogs Sagas, 22 April 2007 By PABurridge (Halesowen, West Mids, UK) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) I loved all of Carol Rivers books. She really brings the Isle of Dogs to life and her stories are fascinating. In Lizzie of Langley Street I was gripped from the beginning to the end and loved the happy ending after all Lizzie's hardships. 5.0 out of 5 stars Lily of Love Lane, 4 Nov 2009 By J. HARRISON - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) I came across this author quite by chance, and I really enjoyed reading this book. Coming from the north of England I have nothing in common with the east end of London or the Ilse of Dogs and knew very little about it. I now want to go there and see the place for myself, as Carol Rivers descriptions are superb. Also her historic references are extremely accurate. The story is set in the 1930s about a lovely young woman just setting out on life's trail. She puts her family first regardless of her own deprevations. Her only hope is that the rich and handsome man she met at the market stall where she works on Saturdays would come back and sweep her off her feet and take all her worries away.(life is`nt like that though is it?) The story is warm, endearing and a great read. Carol Rivers is now on my favorite author list, can`t wait to read more of her wonderful descriptive stories.Lily of Love Lane 5.0 out of 5 stars Another Isle of Dogs masterpiece from Carol Rivers, 15 Oct 2007 By PABurridge (Halesowen, West Mids, UK) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) Again Carol has managed to make the Isle of Dogs in post-war Britain come alive for us. Bella manages to survive her many tribulations and with the help of her family who hold strong in the end she gets the happiness she deserves. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great roller coaster ride! , 7 Jul 2008 By Readaholic "Smeeee" (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bella of Bow Street (Hardcover) This book tells the tale of a young girl Bella, who falls in love with the wrong man, Micky. Her youthful infatuation blinds her to the type of man that he is, she is truly blinded by love. Bella has a hard life, living with her mother and her abusive partner leaves her to run away to the sanctity of the Bryant Family. Bella and her 'simple' brother find themselves indebted to the Bryant family when they save their bacon on many occassions. This story is a heart warming story, that reminds me much of my adolescent fantasies about the wrong type of men. It is well written and has many twists and turns. A very well thought out and executed book! 4.0 out of 5 stars Connie of kettle street, 29 Sep 2009 By happy reader - See all my reviews easy read . good story carol rivers takes you on a journey back to world war two and family relationships 5.0 out of 5 stars thanks for a great book!, 12 Dec 2007 By Ms. S. HARRISON - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) I loved this book from page one and could`nt put it down. The characters are great and I felt that I knew them all personally. This story catapults you into someone else`s life and problems and certainly distracts you from your own. I found myself thinking "now what would I do"? I also had it on audio in the car and found myself driving longer than I needed to!!! My husband who is not normally atracted to this sort of book would catch excerpts whilst in my car and became engrossed in the story line and would ask me "Well, what happened next"?.... Can`t wait for my next Carol Rivers experience!!! 5.0 out of 5 stars good book!, 12 Dec 2007 By Ms. S.
